Introductory Note

Welcome, 1110 enrollees!

Here is some information to help you prepare for the first day of class. The URL for my web site is You can access class materials for INFO 1110 in the Courses sections on the left by clicking on the course name. If the cobhomepages site is down (we've had server problems) you can find a mirror site at

Once you get to the INFO 1110 site you can view the syllabus, see the textbook, and also access the course schedule. You can even download a PDF version of the syllabus better suited for printing. All of this will be discussed on the first day of class. I also included a link to the Addall site, which is a great site for discounts on all of your textbooks.

We will be using Notepad++ to design our web pages. You can use an alternate editor if you want to, but I don't want you using one with a WYSIWYG interface that designs everything for you. You can download Notepad++ here. We'll discuss it more in class, but it would be a good idea for you to get the software downloaded and installed as soon as you can. Here are some directions that may help.

INFO 1110 focuses on creating static web sites using HTML5 and CSS3. What if you think you already know HTML and CSS? Well, we're going to introduce some of the new features of HTML5 and CSS3 with which even seasoned developers are unfamiliar.

The subsequent course, INFO 1120, will focus on adding interactivity to a web site using JavaScript and XML. So if you truly want to learn how to build cool interactive web sites you'll need to take both courses.

See you on the first day of class. And yes, I really do expect you to attend class the first day!
